नई दिल्ली। अलीगढ़ के स्टार धावक गुलवीर सिंह ने एक बार फिर इतिहास रच दिया है। उन्होंने सात मिनट 34.49 सेकंड का समय लेकर अपने ही पिछले राष्ट्रीय रिकॉर्ड (7:38.26 सेकंड) को तोड़ दिया, जो इस साल फरवरी में बोस्टन विश्वविद्यालय में आयोजित डेविड हेमरी वैलेंटाइन आमंत्रण प्रतियोगिता में बना था। यह शानदार प्रदर्शन उन्होंने यूरोप में अपनी पहली ट्रैक रेस के दौरान किया, जो विश्व एथलेटिक्स की कॉन्टिनेंटल टूर स्वर्ण स्तर की प्रतियोगिता थी।
प्रतियोगिता में कीनिया के किपसांग मैथ्यू किपचुम्बा ने 7:33.23 मिनट में स्वर्ण पदक जीता, जबकि मैक्सिको के एडुआर्डो हेरेरा (7:33.58), युगांडा के ऑस्कर चेलिमो (7:33.93) और उरुग्वे के वैलेन्टिन सोका (7:34.28) क्रमशः दूसरे से चौथे स्थान पर रहे। गुलवीर पांचवें स्थान पर रहे, लेकिन उन्होंने एक बार फिर भारत का नाम ऊँचा कर दिया।
रिकॉर्ड्स के बादशाह
गुलवीर पुरुषों की 5000 मीटर (12:59.77) और 10,000 मीटर (27:00.22) में भी राष्ट्रीय रिकॉर्ड धारक हैं। वे इन दोनों इवेंट्स में मौजूदा एशियाई चैंपियन भी हैं। मई में उन्होंने महाद्वीपीय चैंपियनशिप में स्वर्ण पदक जीता था और वे 13 से 21 सितंबर तक टोक्यो में होने वाली विश्व एथलेटिक्स चैंपियनशिप के 5000 मीटर वर्ग में पहले ही क्वालीफाई कर चुके हैं।

अलीगढ़ जिले के छर्रा क्षेत्र के गांव सिरसा के रहने वाले गुलवीर ने अमेरिका के पोर्टलैंड में 5000 मीटर दौड़ में भी कीर्तिमान स्थापित किया था। 19वें एशियन गेम्स (हांगझाऊ, चीन) में उन्होंने 10,000 मीटर दौड़ में 28.17 मिनट का समय लेकर कांस्य पदक जीता था। भारतीय सेना में हवलदार पद पर तैनात गुलवीर अब तक राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर 30 से ज्यादा पदक जीत चुके हैं। एशियन गेम्स में कांस्य पदक जीतने पर उत्तर प्रदेश दिवस पर मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने उन्हें 75 लाख रुपये का पुरस्कार भी प्रदान किया था।
